His career spans two of Brazil's most storied clubs and has earned him numerous accolades, including three FIFA World Cups and four South American Football Confederations Cup (Copa Sudamericana) titles.
Marquinhos made his professional debut with Santos in 1997 at the age of 22. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a key player for the club's youth teams before making his senior debut against Flamengo in 2004. Under coach Roberto Roberto Carlos, Marquinhos became one of the backbone of Santos' midfield, playing alongside stars like Ronaldo, Zico, and Rivaldo.
Throughout his time at Santos, Marquinhos won multiple domestic championships and international honors. He also captained the team to victory in the Copa Libertadores de América in 2008, which was the first time a Brazilian team had lifted the trophy since 1966. Marquinhos' impact on Santos was so significant that he was named the club's player of the year five times during his tenure.
After leaving Santos in 2011, Marquinhos joined São Paulo FC, where he continued to make an immediate impact. He played alongside his old teammates from Santos and helped the club win the 2015 Copa Libertadores de América. Marquinhos was also instrumental in leading São Paulo to the 2016 Copa do Brasil, their first major domestic title in over a decade.
Marquinhos' time with São Paulo was marked by several memorable performances, including a hat-trick in the final match of the 2016 Copa do Brasil. He was also part of the team that reached the semifinals of the 2017 Copa Libertadores de América, but ultimately lost to Atlético Nacional.
In addition to his success with Santos and São Paulo, Marquinhos has been recognized internationally for his contributions to football. He has been named the FIFA World Player of the Year twice (in 2007 and 2014), and has received numerous other awards throughout his career. Marquinhos' legacy as one of the greatest players in football history continues to inspire fans and players alike.
